Women under the auspices of Umuada Obinofia General Assembly on Saturday held a solemn match and prayers in honour of the late Parish Priest of Saint Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu state, Reverend Father Clement Ugwu.
The match and prayer session were to seek the face of God for mercy over the brutal murder of the late catholic priest.
Late Fr. Ugwu was kidnapped in his parish, st. mark Catholic Church, Obinofia-Ndiuno on March 13, 2019, at about 9 p.m shortly after he was said to have returned from a meeting.
His decomposing body was found in a bush on 20th of March, 2019, a week after he was kidnapped.
The women decked in black t-shirts marched round the community wailing and crying brandishing placards with various inscriptions such as the “Name of God is A Strong Tower, Let Progress And Prosperity Be Rooted In Obinofia, let Jesus take over Obinofia, Clement Ugwu; may your soul rest in peace as well as Christ is our peace; our land is blessed forever, God, let your righteousness be enthroned in Obinofia and Oh God Show Us Your Mercy And Forgiveness” among others.
The land was anointed with holy oil to avert future occurrence of such ugly incidence in the community.
President, catholic women organisation, Saint Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia, Benedith Eze-Agu, prayed god for mercy, sanctification, restoration and total cleansing of the land.
He described the late catholic priest who was gruesomely murdered as highly spiritual, and used his time, talents and treasure to improve the lots of parishioners.
In separate remarks, Acting Catechist, Matilda Ozoagu, and Chekwube Chukwuka called for adequate security in the community.
While commiserating with the immediate family, they assured that the catholic community will continue to share in their grief.
They prayed for the repose of the soul of late clement ugwu stressing that his death will not be in vein.
The late Reverend Father Clement Ugwu assumed duty in the parish in February 2015 and was due for transfer before he met his untimely death.
