Oil Theft: Army destroys 27 illegal refining sites, confiscates 100,000 litres of stolen crude

Troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in the Niger Delta, have dealt a significant blow to oil thieves, with the destruction of over 27 newly established illegal refining sites and confiscation of over 100,000 litres of stolen crude during anti-illegal bunkering operations

Spokesperson of the Division, Lt. Col Jonah Danjuma said in a statement on Wednesday that “troops have been conducting extensive operations, traversing the length and breadth of the operational landscape with remarkable successes.

“The operations have destroyed illegal refining sites, arrests, and confiscation of stolen products.

“Notably, troops of 29 Battalion destroyed over 23 newly established illegal refining sites and confiscated 2 storage reservoirs containing over 80,000 litres of stolen crude.

“In addition troops confiscated 3 vehicles loaded with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil estimated to be over 8000 litres.

“Similarly, troops of 16 Brigade, in conjunction with other security agencies, discovered and destroyed over 4 illegal refining sites with 3 metal drums and pits containing stolen crude estimated to be over 6000 litres in Cowthorne Channel II, Degema Local Government Area.

‘The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended troops for their efforts and charged them to ensure the integrity of the pipelines is maintained, guaranteeing seamless oil production.

“He also urged critical stakeholders, particularly host communities, to provide credible intelligence on criminal activities to security agencies

“The products confiscated are being handled appropriately, and the successes recorded are a testament to the effectiveness of the anti-illegal bunkering operations in the area.”
