THE Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has underscored the need for harmonious and peaceful co-existence among different ethnic groups in the state in particular and Nigeria in general in order for the nation to move forward.
Governor Okowa stated this during a visit to the palace of the Serkin Hausawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero at Cable Point, Asaba.
The Governor who was represented by his Senior Political Adviser, Chief Festus Ochonogor, said that there was no alternative to peace and unity, adding that his administration would continue to promote peace in the state in line with his Peace Building Platform aimed at Political/ Social Stability component of the SMART Agenda.
He commended the Arewa Community in the State for their support for the present administration, saying that his administration was committed to the welfare of non- indigenes as evident in the political appointment of some non-indigenes into positions of authority.
He said the visit was to felicitate and congratulate the Arewa Community on the successful celebration of Eid- el-Fitr (Sallah), just as he appealed to the Arewa Community in the State to call the bad elements among them, especially the notorious Fulani herdsmen to order.
The Governor decried the nefarious activities of some Fulani herdsmen in the state, saying that anybody apprehended would face the music.
He enjoined them to redouble their support for the present administration, assuring that more dividends of democracy await Deltans and other residents in the state in the years ahead.
Responding, the Serkin Hausawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero on behalf of the Arewa Community, commended the Governor for his good governance and commitment to the wellbeing of non- indigenes in the state.
He particularly thanked the Governor for his Sallah gift to them and for turning the fortunes of Cable Point around for good by not only dualising the Cable Point road but also installing solar street light on the road, admitting that they had never had it so good.
In an interview, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Non-Indigenes, Alhaji Muktan Usman, who also commended the Governor for his purposeful leadership, pledged their support for the Governor.
Similarly, the Serkin Hausawa also played host to Otu-Ihaza led by its leader, Ogbueshi Uche Nwajei who were in his palace to felicitate with the Arewa Community on the successful celebration of Sallah.
In his remarks, Ogbueshi Nwajei assured the Arewa Community in Asaba of a peaceful co-existence, appealing to the Serkin and his people to help in checkmating the activities of criminals in their area.
Also in an interview, Barrister Mohammed Nduka Elunor, among others sued for peaceful co,-existence, saying that all hands should be on deck to move the country forward.
Highpoint of the occasion was the endorsement of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for 2019 by the Arewa Community in
Delta State.
