The Personal Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Flavour Eze has said that his principal did not take delivery of any Federal Government COVID-19 palliative meant for Enugu State.
Eze disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Enugu.
He said that the clarification had become necessary following an alleged petition that palliative items meant for the state were diverted by him for other uses.
Recall that a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Mr Peter Ilo had in a petition dated Oct. 26, 2020 accused Eze of diverting palliative items sent to the state through Mr Geoffrey Onyeama
The petition was addressed to the chairman of the APC in the state, Mr Ben Nwoye.
Ilo alleged that Eze shared the palliative items among his friends and relatives which according to him is outside the directive of the leadership of the party and the presidency on how to handle the materials.
However, Eze described the allegation as unfounded, adding that the minister never took delivery of any palliative item either meant for the state government or the APC members in the state.
He said that the allegation was a grand design to discredit the good work the minister was doing as well as to ignite crisis in the state chapter of the party.
Eze said that just as other good spirited Nigerians did at the wake of the pandemic, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama had on May 3, 2020 distributed some palliative items to deserving residents of the state.
Eze said that the palliative items included food items, toiletries, protective equipment and medical supplies including theatre gowns, surgical goggles, latex gloves and others donated to the state state government.
He said that the disbursements were done through Kwusike Foundation, a nongovernmental organisation that empowers children, families and communities in Nigeria and funded by Onyeama.
He said that the items were duly distributed to those they were meant for including charity homes, the physically challenged, the state government, APC members and others.
Eze said that he would not take the allegation lightly as that was a deliberate effort to impugn on his integrity and set him on collision with members of the party and others.
He challenged Ilo to either prove the allegation or face a legal action.
