The Owa of Idanre kingdom, Oba Fredrick Aroloye, has urged the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, to intervene in the spate of insecurity in the region, using traditional means.

Idanre traditional ruler, who decried the state of insecurity in the region, stressed that there was the need to tackle the menace unconventionally.

He gave the charge during the celebration of his 45th coronation anniversary in Idanre, in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Ooni of Ife and people from all walks of life graced the occasion, including the Deji of Akure, Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo; Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo; Olubaka of Oka-Akoko, Oba Adebori Adeleye; and  Aroloye of Atosin, Oba Gilbert Ogunlowo.

Aroloye said, “It’s documented that the Ooni of Ife is the Arole of Oduduwa. I have many documents to prove that.

” You ( Ooni)  have many vital roles to play now at this point in time. There is insecurity in Yorubaland. We need to tackle this unconventional way. Before the coming of the colonial masters, our fathers had their own way of tackling insecurity. We still have these things with and in us. We haven’t thrown everything away.”

According to Idanre monarch,  Oba Ogunwusi would be the third Ooni that had visited Idanre because of the relationship between the two towns. He noted that Idanre was initially known as Ife Oke before the name was changed to Idanre, which was derived from the magical prowess of the people.

Responding, the Oba Ogunwusi agreed with Oba Aroloye and promised to address the issue.

He promised to return to the town soon to climb the popular Idanre Hill which harbours several tourist centres.
