Osun State Government on Friday withdrew attempted murder charges against loyalists of Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
Ex-secretary of All Progressives Congress(APC), Osun State chapter, Rasaq Salinsile; ex-APC chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi; two ex-commissioners, Kazeem Salami; Biyi Odunlade, former Special Adviser to Aregbesola, Gbenga Akano and two others namely Alaba Popoola and Azeez Adekunle were arraigned on three counts of attempted murder, conspiracy, and assault on August 23rd, 2021.
Before the Ministry of Justice took over the case, police prosecutor, Inspector John Idoko told the court that the defendants and others now at large on August 14th, 2021 at about 1:30 pm in the Ogo-Oluwa area conspired among themselves to unlawfully assault one Hamzat Lukman Babatunde by hitting him with stones on his head, which caused him harm.
However, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State directed that the case should be discontinued noting that the incident is strictly family affairs.
When the case came up at an Osogbo Magistrate Court, Osogbo presided over by Olusegun Ayilara, a counsel from the Ministry of Justice, Mr. O. F Akintayo prayed the court to withdraw the charge.
Ayilara dismissed the charge of attempted murder, conspiracy, and assault against six defendants.
