The Ogisi of Oza-Nogogo and his subjects have expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for his quick response in coming to their aid in the dualization and tarring of the major road in the community. They showed their appreciation when the governor commissioned the Omumu-Oza-Nogogo-Alisimie road on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
In his address presented by the President, Oza-Nogogo Elite Foundation, Bar. Benjamin Oriakhi on behalf of the Ogisi and the entire people of Oza-Nogogo, he welcomed Governor Okowa to the home of his birth (Oza-Nogogo). According to him, “it may interest you to know that Governor Okowa was born in Oza-Nogogo.
The good people of Oza-Nogogo will forever live to remember the good moments shared with the Okowa family during their stay here. Thank God that Senator Okowa’s birth has turned a blessing for us. On this ground, we name him ‘Ozabor’ which means that his birth has brought us favour. Our joy knows no bounds as the road being commissioned has been over 100 years a dream of our people.
Today it has come to reality. We are indeed thankful to you Governor Okowa for using your good office to affect us positively. Politically, we are grossly marginalised and for this singular honour done us come 2019, we will give Okowa 100 percent of our support regardless of the political party he may belong to. We are happy with the Okowa led administration and with this high expectation of the commitment of the governor towards the development of our community; we have decided to name the road leading to his place of birth as Dr. Ifeanyi Ozabor Okowa Way. This road project has given us a sense of belonging”.
He used the opportunity to also thank the governor for his quick intervention in stopping the illegal mining of the Kaolin deposit in Oza-Nogogo, requesting him and the people of the community who are interested in investing in the extraction and processing of Kaolin to site a cottage industry in the community which according to him will help boost the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state and the SMART agenda as regards youth empowerment and job creation.
Bar. Oriakhi stated categorically that Oza-Nogogo is among the best and largest Kaolin deposit areas in Nigeria which according to him when extracted and processed will be good for the manufacturing of tiles, enamel wares, pharmaceutical products and other by-products. He concluded by stating that the people of Oza-Nogogo look forward to having the governor on Oza Day celebration which will hold in 2018 to honour him for his developmental strides, even as he stated that the governor has performed beyond expectations since he assumed office with the dwindling economic situation in Nigeria.
Responding, Governor Okowa thanked the people of Oza-Nogogo for the warm reception, saying that he was impressed with the large turnout of both old and young to witness the road commissioning. The governor while assuring Deltans of his administration’s commitment in fulfilling his electoral promises said the road which is being commissioned was part of his promise made to the people of Oza-Nogogo during his electioneering campaign which today God has made it come to a reality.
According to him, “I felt bad over the state of roads in Oza-Nogogo when I visited the community. In the course of road construction, the major road leading from other communities to Oza-Nogogo were attended to but unfortunately the most populated of the synergies around (Oza-Nogogo) was left out. The Oza-Nogogo road project was among the first three projects awarded on my assumption of office as the governor of Delta State. Thank God the project has been delivered as promised”.
However, the governor condemned in strong terms the illegal mining of Kaolin deposit in Oza-Nogogo by a Chinese investor that does not follow a due process. Governor Okowa warned that such attempt for investors to come and exploit our people of their God-given resources without giving back to the community should not repeat itself. He called Oza-Nogogo people to be patient on with him and pray for him, assuring them that more projects will be executed in the community as the economy improves.
In a chat with newsmen shortly after the road commissioning, the first member, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Delta State, Hon. Caroline Agbi stated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done well and the people of Oza-Nogogo community wholeheartedly thank him for having their development at heart. She pledged their continuous supports to Okowa’s administration and wished him well.
