The Pentecostal Bishops of Enugu have condemned in strong terms the incessant killings in Nigeria especially in the South East region, stating that the general insecurity in nigeria and bloodletting have called for serious concern.
The Bishops under the aegis of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, stated this in a six points communiqué presented on Tuesday by its chairman, Bishop Godwin Madu after a meeting held in Enugu.
The bishops who decried the action of suspected Fulani herdsmen, who go about killing people, burning houses and raping women, daughters and mothers in the South East, called on state and federal governments to unravel the identities of the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“The Fulani Herdsmen who go about killing people, burning houses and raping our innocent daughters, mothers and wives. We condemn these actions. It has never been so in the past”.
“The issue of bandits and unknown gun men has made the country unsafe for everybody. They have killed so many people here and there. This has caused us sleepless nights with questions yet to be answered, “where are they from and who are they?” we call on the government of both state and federal to unravel their identity so that they will not turn around to be another Boko Haram. IPOB and MASSOB have denied them, so also other pressure groups in the country. We have nobody to hold concerning them. Let the federal government and all the security agents unravel their identity”.
While speaking on the forthcoming 2023 general elections, the bishops in a communiqué as presented by their chairman, bishop Godwin Madu said no political office is for sale as it amounts selling the future of the children unborn, to greedy and selfish people, stating that they need credible candidates no matter the party affiliation who are ready to turn the fortunes of this country around for the good of the people.
“We want Nigerians to know that in 2023 general election, no political office is for sale. We are not ready to sell the future of our children to greedy and selfish people. We need credible candidates no matter the party affiliation who are ready to turn the fortunes of this country around for the good of the people. They must have the capacity to serve for the betterment of the masses who have suffered untold hardship in the hands of bad leaders”.
On the issue of fuel hike, the Pentecostal Bishops called on the federal government not to increase the price of the premium motor spirit as the increase affects every facet of human life.“
The Pentecostal bishops of Enugu are calling on the federal government of Nigeria not to increase the fuel price again. The increase affects the items in the market, transportation and even the life of the commoners. The civil society must resist the further strategy to impoverish them”.
They said the agitations for secession from different parts of the country are as a result of lack of confidence in the government and alleged marginalisation in the scheme of things, and tasked government on result oriented dialogue with agitating groups.
“The agitation for secession coming from different parts of the country is as a result of lack of confidence in the government and marginalization in the schemes of things. Government should dialogue with the agitating groups at different parts of the country. The country is boiling here and there, and the government should as a matter of urgency call for a discussion/dialogue to end this trouble looming in different parts”.
“The Pentecostal bishops frown at the incessant strikes and demonstrations we see these days. We call on both the federal and state governments to grant autonomy to the judiciary and legislatives. State government should obey and respect the law and see that strikes stop. Let all the legislative houses and judiciary be allowed to run their affairs”.
“In conclusion, we call on the church to pray and fast. We are asked by our Lord Jesus to watch and pray. Prayer is an answer to the problems of our country.
Meanwhile, the former PFN chairman, Enugu state chapter, Bishop Obi Onubogu who frowned at the attack on the Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma, noting that if the chief security officer of the state is not safe, the people are in trouble.
Onubogu advised South East Governors to workout fruitful modalities that will ensure good working relationship between the joint security outfit recently pronounced by the governors forum called EBUBEAGU and the existing EASTERN SECURITY NETWORK, ESN, established by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, maintaining that the two security outfits are serving the same purpose of protecting lives and property of the people of the region.
