A major disaster was on Friday averted along Eke Obinagu-Emene-Abakaliki Road, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State as a tanker carrying 33,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS fell blocking the expressway way.
The incident caused obstruction of vehicle movement as motorists were diverted to alternative routes.
Residents attempted scooping fuel flowing from the tanker but were restricted by officials of the Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC who were on ground to forestall security breach.
The State Emergency Management Agency as well as the State Fire Service and other stakeholders swiftly responded to avert explosion.
Meanwhile, Enugu State government has warned against scooping of fuel from a fallen tanker in view of the inherent danger associated with it.
