DEATH AND ARREST OF KIDNAP SUSPECTS, RESCUE OF VICTIMS AND RECOVERY OF AK-47 RIFLE WITH LIVE AMMUNITION AND OTHER ITEMS; CP VOWS TO MAKE LIFE DIFFICULT FOR CRIMINALS

The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public, particularly citizens of the State, that it has successfully rescued a total of three (3) kidnap victims in two separate operations carried out on 16/05/2020 and 26/05/2020, after engaging the alleged Kidnappers in a gun duel at their criminal hideout, leading to the death of one and the arrest of the other, who sustained severe bullets injuries.

Preliminary investigation reveals that two (2) of the victims, a father and daughter, were reported kidnapped on 15/05/2020 at about 1700hrs, by armed men at a building site in Eziama Abakpa-Nike and taken to an unknown destination. However, on 16/05/2020 at about 2200hrs, a combined team of Operatives attached to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cult Units, acting on intelligence, rescued the victims unhurt inside a forest in the said community, after a serious gun duel with the Kidnappers. They have since re-united with their family members.

The third victim was reported kidnapped on 25/05/2020 at about 2030hrs in exchange for her son and one other, who were being held by the alleged Kidnappers. However, following a tactical and intelligence-led operation carried out by Operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit at the said forest, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt, after an intense gun battle with the Kidnappers, which led to the dead of one and the arrest of the other with severe bullets injuries and in a critical condition. One (1) AK-47 rifle with breech no. HM9221, twenty (20) rounds of live ammunition, two (2) matches, four (4) handsets and a cash sum of Seven Hundred Naira (N700.00) were recovered from them.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman MCPSS, MCJ, MNIM, while entreating residents to always assist the Police with credible information required to effectively police the State, has vowed to make life unbearable for criminal elements hell-bent on inflicting pains on citizens these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To this end, the Commissioner, while commending the gallantry efforts of the Operatives involved in the Operations, has warned and directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Operational/Tactical Departments in the Command to be proactive and resolute in combating acts of crimes and criminality in the State. He made it clear that the Command under his watch will not stand idly-by and see unscrupulous elements perpetrate heinous crimes in the State.

Meanwhile, residents of the State have been enjoined to remain law-abiding, vigilant and promptly report suspected criminals and acts of criminality to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172.
