The Enugu State Police Command has prevented an escalation of an irate mob-action in Ozalla community near Enugu against unsuspecting passersby on Friday.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement issued and signed by him in Enugu.
Amaraizu said that the incident was brought under control by police operatives at the division in Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.
He noted that the timely response of the police operatives prevented what would have brought disorder, bloodshed and mayhem throughout the state.
“It was gathered that one Ndubueze Oboro was allegedly farming at Umane Ngene Bush in Ozalla community when suddenly he was allegedly attacked by a suspected pastoralist who also allegedly gave him matchete cut on his shoulder and also, loss of five of the victim’s fingers.
“It was further gathered that after allegedly committing the crime, the suspect allegedly escaped just as the victim was rescued through the assistance of co-villagers within the community and taken to hospital for medical attention.
“This however angered the irate youth in the area who quickly moved into action of revenge and in that process sighted a passerby man identified as Abdulraham Usman and pounced on him.
“The irate youths allegedly inflicted several degrees of injuries on him but was promptly rescued by police operatives,’’ he said.
Amaraizu said that all the victims had been rushed to a nearby hospital. “The command has commenced a full scale investigation into the matter,’’ he added.
