No fewer than nine kidnap victims have been rescued by operatives of the police force from bandits terrorizing Katsina State.
It was gathered that the persons were kidnapped by the bandits who in their numbers attacked Kirijam village, Mahuta Ward of Dandume LGA and shoot sporadically with AK 47 rifles.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah said based on tip-off his men foiled the attack after engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel.
SP Isah said in the event many of the bandits sustained degrees of injuries while the kidnap victims were rescued unhurt.
According to him, “At about 23:00hrs on Thursday, bandits in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked Kirijam village, Mahuta Ward of Dandume LGA and kidnapped nine (9) persons. On receipt of the report, DPO Dandume Division led a team of Policemen and blocked their possible exit route at Kadawan Maikomo village, Sabuwa LGA. Fortunately, the bandits followed through the route and fell into a police ambush. The team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them.
“The doggedness, uncommon courage and tactical operational strategy adopted by the Police officers made the bandits flee into the forest with varying degrees of bullets wounds.
“In the course of profiling the scene, all the nine (9) abducted persons were rescued unhurt and some GSM phones and food items were stolen from the village by the hoodlums were also recovered.
“The Command urges members of the public to cooperate with security agencies working at the frontline areas by giving them credible information on bandits and their collaborators, especially those supplying them with arms and ammunition, informants and other essential commodities.
“Similarly, the Command assures members of the public that the command remains resolute and committed in the ongoing fight against recalcitrant bandits until they are arrested and dealt with according to the extant laws of the land,” SP Isah however stated.
