The Police Service Commission (PSC) has lauded the Enugu State Police Command over its efforts in sustaining high security and safety in the state.
The Chairman of the PSC Board, Mr Musiliu Smith, gave the commendation during a courtesy call of the board to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Danmallam, in Enugu on Monday.
The courtesy call was part of the board’s two-day working visit to the command, its formations and the Police College, Oji River.
Smith, who was represented by a commissioner in the board, Mr Austin Braimoh, said that the board came to access what had been on ground in the command.
He noted that they came to see ways to improve police operations and image in the state as well.
The board came to being at a time when the image of the police was at its lowest ebb.
However, we are quite impressed with the state’s commissioner of police, who had managed materials, logistics and personnel so far,’’ the chairman said.
According to him, since we came into the state, the board members had seen how calm, peaceful and orderly the state is so far.
Smith said: We urge you to continue on the good work and continue to make Enugu State rank the most secured and safe state in the country.
With the revelation on ground, we have seen why Enugu State is the most peaceful and orderly state.
However, the command should let us know the areas the board can be of assist to you command’’.
I see dedicated and committed personalities that can bring the needed improvement in Nigerian Police’’.
Responding, Danmallam said the command was so honoured to receive the PSC board members and for making Enugu State and its command the first to be visited.
Danmallam lauded that the caliber and quality of people in the board, adding:
He noted that by the time he took over in February, 2017, the rate of heinous and violent crimes in the state was high; but today, the state is so crime-free and peaceful that people attend social functions even late in the night.
The commissioner said that the challenges of the command included: shortage of manpower and shortages of logistics – vehicles, offices, motorcycles etc.
Our officers and men needed adequate enumeration to get motivated to fight crime the more.
While the command is taming the cultism monster in secondary schools and higher institutions in the state through community policing as well as involving religious and community leaders to talk to these children and mentor them appropriately,’’ he said.
