The Management of Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP – 2) Enugu State has condemned alleged molestation and harassment of management staff of EMAMED Nigeria Limited, contractor handling the asphalting of the 26. 66 KM Ukpabi-Nimbo-Ugbene-Ajima-Eziani road project.
The alleged act was reportedly carried out by a team of uninformed men led by one Mr. Opata Igbo.
The Opata Igbo-led group alleged asphalt was being poured on a bare floor by the contractor.
But in a statement, RAMP State Project Coordinator, Engr. Chinedu Ugwu said the claim is far from the truth “as all projects carried out by RAMP are done based on World Bank Approved Standards adding that “the newly constructed road being asphalted has the sub-base and base course approved laterite of 150mm thickness each compacted in layers to receive Hot Rolled ASPHALTIC Concrete”.
According to him, the management of RAMP perceived the action of the said group as an act founded on mischief aimed at scoring cheap attention and urged the public to disregard the cheap popularity being sought for by the said persons.
“It is pertinent to inform the public that the Road project in question met all the approved World Bank/Federal Ministry of Works/ Enugu State Ministry of Works & Infrastructure Engineering design standards/criteria and in his determination to give Ndi-Enugu a quality road that will stand the test of time, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, appealed to the World Bank through RAMP-2 Enugu Office to asphalt the road instead of leaving the road at the earlier approved laterite based level”.
“The management of RAMP Enugu office commends the good people of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area who came out in their numbers to defend staffers of the company handling the Ukpabi-Nimbo-Ugbene-Ajima-Eziani road project from molestation cum harassment by the uninformed youths led by Opata Igbo”.
“The management of RAMP-2 also wishes to inform Ndi-Enugu and the general public that all our projects are duly approved by our donor agencies; the World Bank and the French Development Agency who come regularly on missions and visits project sites. It is however quite surprising that the magnanimity of the Governor in seeking for the asphalting of this road which was previously meant to stop at lateritic road is being misconstrued by this uninformed group”.
