Rector of Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu Dr John Eniamo, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for giving assent to the bill that made the college a degree awarding Institution.
Eniamo, who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Mrs Ann Olofin made the commendation during the 63rd Matriculation Ceremony of the College on Saturday.
“It is on record that on Dec. 5, 2017 President Buhari assented to the bill that made our College a degree awarding Institution.
“It is a thing of joy for the students and the lecturers as well because in months to come more departments will be created in order to provide access to many who want to pass through the College,” he said.
He urged the matriculating students to always be law-abiding, adding that it was an opportunity for receiving training in a health and medical services.
Eniamo warned the students to do away with crimes in order to complete their academic exercise without expulsion from the College.
“There are three offences which when committed and caught, it will be an outright dismissal from the College and these include cheating during assessment and examination, belonging to secrete cult either in the College or outside the College and stealing and sexual assault,” he warned.
He called on the Federal Government to help the College in providing new technological equipment to replace the obsolete ones for effective teaching and learning in the College as well as building more standard laboratories.
The Acting Registrar, Mrs Angella Chukwu said that from the establishment of the College since 1955 by Queen Elizabeth, the College has produced many human resources who had brought succour to Nigerians in many hospitals where dental therapy and technology services are carried out.
Mrs Charity Onachukwu, the College Guidance Counselor advised the matriculating students to live a decent life for them to be able to achieve their purpose of coming into the College.
Meanwhile, the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy celebrated its 63rd as 250 students matriculated for the 2017/ 2018 academic session.
Some of the new students said that they were happy and privileged to be admitted into the college especially now it has become a degree awarding Institution.
Miss Promise Anyim,a student of Dental Nursing department thanked the school management for making it possible for them to be part of the College, urging other students to make good use of the advice received from the management.
Joseph Udeze said he was very happy that by the end of his academic carrier in the College, he would be receiving a degree certificate in Dental Technology.
