ENUGU-AS a show of love and concern to inmates of the Nigerian Prisons, Enugu, a non-governmental organisation known as South East Professional Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora, SEPWAND, has donated relief materials worth thousands of Naira to support and alleviate the conditions of female inmates at the facility.
Speaking at the event, the state coordinator of SEPWAND, Mrs Ndidi Ukaga, stated that their action was in line with the objectives of the group which is to put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable ones in the society.
“this visit here today is in line with our objectives to promote the well being of every woman, young and old, especially the vulnerable ones in the society”
She said that SEPWAND has the passion for the less privileged and the abused in the society with a special interest in women. She noted that the group aims to give the vulnerable members of the society a better living condition.
“this is a non-governmental organisation whose key objectives are to eradicate girl child abuse, sex slavery, and all forms of slavery against women and to provide them with livelihood, skills and empowerment.
While presenting the gift items to Controller of Prisons Enugu, Mrs Ukwuori Kalu, the leader of the group thanked the Nigerian Prisons, Enugu, for being worthy partners and sort for better collaboration in the future.
“we present these items as a token of our love for you and our concern for your well being. We hope it will go a long way in meeting your needs. We thank the Nigerian Prisons, Enugu, as we look forward to more fruitful relationship with you.
Receiving the gifts, on behalf of the inmates, Mrs Ukwuori Kalu thanked the group for their kindness and promised to carryout their duties diligently and promised to support the group in reaching their goal.
In the same vein, female inmates at the facility who were ecstatic and joyous over the kind gesture of the group thanked them for their support.
