My fellow Nigerians, my name is Kingsley Moghalu and I am the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP). While politicians play the games that they love to play, trading blame while putting our democracy at risk, please do not be distracted. The issues that made us step up to dismiss and terminate a political class that has failed yet remain.
They want you to forget. But you and I will not forget.
They want you to lose hope, stay home, and fall victim to their dirty tricks. But you and I cannot allow them to win, yet again.
As we prepare to go to the polls in the next 48 hours, the question we have asked since the beginning of this journey remains: clear, firm, loud in our hearts and before our eyes: What has this political class, represented by the APC and PDP, delivered for us? What have we gotten from these recycled old politicians apart from poverty, death, and disaster?
The choice this weekend is in doing what is right. Vote for the people under whose leadership you can sleep at night, knowing the country is safe. Don’t fall for the deception that the election is already won by the same people who have ruined our country.
This election is not won yet.
And more to the point, this election is not between the PDP and the APC. It is between the corrupt, failed political class and the rest of us.
Would you hire a doctor whose treatment doesn’t work? Would you be flown by a pilot who has crashed 19 planes? Would you hire a carpenter whose tables and chairs keep breaking?
If the answer is no, then this Saturday’s elections are a call to action. A call to make a decision you will be proud of in decades to come; a decision that you can explain to your children with pride and with a clear conscience.
IT IS TIME for a new way, time for a new kind of leadership with competence – the competence to solve problems, save our youth from destruction and gain the respect of the world.
I present myself as the candidate of that time that has finally come.
Since I announced my candidacy in February 2018, I have traversed the country, speaking with Nigerians, old and young, male and female, from all geopolitical zones and all states in the federation. In my conversations, I saw a people who are fed up with the status quo but who wonder whether things can really change for the better.
Throughout this campaign, my message to you has been consistent: It is possible, and It is time.
It is time to end the reign of those who think that power over our destinies is reserved only for them, their family and friends. It is time to let politicians all over this country realize that we are fully in control of our destinies, that we know what time it is, that we will no longer allow them play games with our future. It is time to free ourselves from the grip of the evil twins that are APC and PDP. It is time to let them know that their timeis up.
There are those who till now have doubts. They believe that there are only two parties. But you know this is not true.
You have one job, as do I, this Saturday – to ignore those who continue to doubt and continue in naysaying. Do what you know to be right. Vote your conscience.
This is how elections are won: if enough of you vote for a turnaround, we will win. There is no other magic. There is no magic. I have done the part that you have asked of me. I have presented myself. I have gone across the country. I have spent my own money and put myself at risk, all because I believe in you.
Now, I ask you to do your part.
Your vote is your voice, and it should be heard in every corner of this country. Saturday awaits that voice of yours.
On Saturday, we must end the reign of terror from a political class that has nothing to offer except the moral and intellectual bankruptcy that has afflicted our nation.
Our quest to build a nation that will be better for our children and children’s children will not stop with the elections. Our dreams for a more prosperous, more equitable, more humane society will not be realized in one election cycle.
Nigeria needs you, my brothers and sisters. Nigeria needs you not to give up hope, not to give in to fear and doubt. Nigeria needs you to hold tight, to stand strong and to do right.
This Saturday is about you and me making a statement – that enough is finally, and truly, enough.
The party is YPP – the Young Progressives Party. The logo is an open door, open as a door to opportunity. You will find it at the end of the ballot paper.
Let no one fool you.
Our time has finally come.
God bless you. And God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
