Three arraigned for allegedly stealing 10 bags of rice

Three men, Abdulrasaq Quawil, 22; Motunrayo Akinyole, 31; and Uchenna Chukwu, 31; have been arraigned before the Ogun State Magistrates’ Court at Sango-Ota for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing 10 bags of rice worth N600,000 and melon valued at N60,000.

The defendants were charged with theft and conspiracy, punishable under sections 427 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The prosecution counsel, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offences on May 10 around 4am at Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

Adaraloye said the defendants and their accomplices, who broke into the shop of the complainant, Funke Oyejide, were apprehended by community vigilantes.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, A.O. Adeyemi, admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety each in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.

Adeyemi adjourned the matter till June 8 for further hearing.
