Three persons have died and eight others injured in two separate accidents on the Sagamu-Benin-Ore Expressway in Ogun State.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Okpe said the first accident occurred on Sunday around 9.30pm after J4 Ogbere on the Benin-Ore Expressway in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

She explained that the crash involved two vehicles: a Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate, APP 86 7XZ, and a truck with the number plate, KJA376 XN.

According to Okpe, 10 persons were involved in the crash.

She said, “Eight were injured, comprising three male adults and five female adults. Unfortunately, two deaths were recorded from the crash.

“The suspected cause was speed, which led to loss of control.

“The injured victims were taken to the state general hospital, Ijebu-Ode, while the dead were deposited at the morgue.

“The sector commander, FRSC, Ogun State, cautioned motorists against excessive speed, especially at night when visibility is poor.

“He also commiserated with the families of the deceased and asked them to contact the FRSC Ogbere Outpost for more information.”

On the second accident, which involved a truck that plunged into the Ososa River, Okpe said one person was confirmed dead.

She said the incident occurred around 7am on Monday on the Ososa Bridge and involved a trailer loaded with cement.

“The suspected cause of the lone crash was speed that led to loss of control.

“According to the representative of Dangote Cement, although the vehicle was laden with Dangote Cement, there was the need to recover the submerged vehicle in the first place to determine if it actually belongs to Dangote Group or not.

“A crane has been contacted by the Dangote Cement representative to ensure timely recovery of the crashed vehicle,” she added.
