The Archbishop, Enugu Ecclesiastic Province and Bishop, Enugu Diocese, Anglican Communion, Emmanuel Chukwuma, has commended governors of Enugu and Ebonyi states, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Dave Umuahi for delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

Archbishop Chukwuma who made the commendation while  delivering the presidential address and Bishop’s charge at the Third Session of the Sixteenth Synod of Enugu Diocese held Christ Redemption Church, Enugu also advised  south-east governors to come together and unite to fight for the common good of Ndigbo

He expressed gratitude particularly to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his interventions on Ugwuoba-Awka road and Nsukka Ninth Mile.

The Archbishop scored Ugwuanyi high on maintenance of peace and regular payment of salary of worker

“We are grateful to the governor of Enugu state, Rt Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for the way he tackled the Ugwuoba-Awka road and Nsukka Ninth Mile before Christmas last year. We appreciate him for Opi/Nsukka road also and pray they complete it quickly.”

“The governor of Ebonyi state, Chief Dave Umahi, is also trying his best in Ebonyi state. Thank God for their lives and pray that they continue to relate with the church peacefully as we are supporting and praying for their success. We advised south-east governors to please come together and unite to fight for the common good of Ndigbo. The new Ohanaeze under the leadership of Chief Nnia nwodo hopefully will help us. We congratulate him for the new assignment”.

“We want to use this opportunity to appreciate all our south-east politicians who have spent two years in this democratic dispensation. More especially our dear Governors of Ebonyi and Enugu states in our province”.

“The Governor of Enugu state Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has done well in maintaining peace and regular salary for workers. His concern for the poor and rural areas is highly commendable. We pray God to help Anambra state in their forth-coming elections.”

On the WHISTLE BLOWING policy of the federal government, Archbishop Chukwuma condemned the way the “whistle is now being misled because of money percentage and described the wrong whistle blown on Senator Ike Ekweremadu as unfortunate. “We plead that all these witch-hunting of our people should be stopped forthwith and allow peace and good governance to prevail”.

He flayed Nigeria’s poor ranking on Fragile States Index as the 13th least stable country in the world on the fragile state’s index FSI which he said is not surprising as it is a “result of our failures to our vast human, socio-economic/political stability strength. For too long after attaining flag independence from Britain, we have squandered our diverse resources to global odium and our own damnation”.

“In a report released recently by the Washington-based think-tank, Fund for Peace FFP, Nigeria was ranked alongside countries like South Sudan, DR Congo, Guinea and Zimbabwe. Nigeria tied with Zimbabwe in the 13th position from the rear, while Ethiopia is 14. The fragile state’s index, which was formerly the failed states index, is an annual ranking of 178 countries which highlights not only the normal pressures that all countries face, but all help to identify when those pressures are pushing a country to the brink of failure. It is based on a set of social, economic and political indicators and about 100 sub-indicators, among which are uneven economic development, demographic pressures, group grievances, poverty and economic decline state legitimacy and the state of public services. “If the truth must be told Nigeria’s unflattering ranking at the bottom rungs of this index is a sad reflection of the state of affairs in the country;’ He said.
