The Member representing Nkanu East Constituency at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor says Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has committed huge resources to ensure that each community in the state benefits from the dividends of his administration.
This is even as he said the state House of Assembly will make relevant laws to fast track implementation of his policies aimed at infrastructural development in the rural areas.
Nnajiofor who is the Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development and Community and Social Development Projects stated this on Tuesday when he led members of the committee on a familiarisation visit to Enugu Rural Electrification Board.
He charged the Board to ensure that all communities are equal stakeholders in the distribution of electricity projects.
He assured that all bottlenecks militating against smooth operations of the board will be addressed and stressed the need for the board to be committed to making the people feel the impact of its mandate.
“We must once again urge you to do more in the realization of the vision and mission of his Excellency, the governor in developing our rural areas. So many of our rural dwellers may not come to the city, before they can enjoy social amenities”. He said.
“His Excellency has done well and we commend him for his vision, in having rural development as a key thrust of his four point agenda”.
Managing Director, Enugu Rural Electrification Board, Engineer Onyeama Odo said the board is working assiduously to ensure that communities without electricity were connected.
According to him, the board has no standard template for selecting benefiting communities but relies on request from interested communities.
He said that his administration had electrified more than 300 communities, in terms of rural electricity, boosting the existing ones, extension, and construction of new ones where they don’t have electricity at all.
Odo also said that the level of electricity in the rural areas had reduced the rush by people of Enugu State to the urban cities and also contributed to the villagers knowing that they were part of the government.
