The Enugu Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has debunked rumours linking it to a fatal accident that occurred recently in Enugu involving a fuel tanker.
There have been rumours attributing the tanker accident that happened in Enugu which burnt a petrol station along Enugu-Onitsha expressway to officials of the security agency who allegedly chased the tanker driver carrying petroleum products meant for Enugu.
The Enugu State Commandant, NSCDC, Steve Amoga who briefed journalists on the true position of the situation said officials of the corp did not chase the tanker driver as being peddled around describing the rumour as mischievous and an attempt to smear the image of the corp.
Amoga noted that while the NSCDC is saddled with the responsibility of protecting critical national infrastructure including oil facilities, it does not chase tankers carrying petroleum products.
While reaffirming the command’s commitment to arresting and prosecuting persons who indulge in pipeline vandalism and diversion of petroleum products, Amoga said the Department of State Security, DSS and National Union Petroleum and Natural Gas , NUPENG have already exonerated the NSCDC from the ill-fated accident and indict another federal agency.
