World Bank intervenes in road, electrification projects in Enugu community

ENUGU-IN furtherance of ties between the Enugu State government and the World Bank in the provision of social amenities and rural development through Enugu State Agency for Community and Social Development Projects,  CSDP, the World Bank has commenced a road rehabilitation  and a rural electrification project worth N9.926 million at Ndi Agu Iheakpuoka community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of the State.

The agency gave the community two million, four hundred thousand naira (N2.4 million) as the first tranche to start the project.

Presenting the cheque to the community, the General Manager of CSDP,  Dr Maximus Asogwa, commended the community for paying the N1 million which qualified them to benefit from the World Bank assisted project.

World Bank project  attracted by the community because of their unity and the financial support from the former Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Fidelis Odo, while he was in office.

It was learnt that the Local government under Hon. Fidelis Odo provided financial assistance of N500,000 to each community to help them raise the needed N1,000,000 to qualify for World Bank Projects.

Asogwa said that the road rehabilitation project would cost  N8.9m while the electricity extension project would cost a total of N997, 000.

The CSDP boss, who advised the community to use the money according to the directives and stipulations ,promised that the agency is prepared to give them the second installment once the first stage of project was completed.

Speaking earlier at the occasion,  former caretaker chairman,  Dr. Fidelis Odo, while expressing happiness for the event thanked CSDP for making sure that the project was a reality, noting that it was a joint effort by the people and the government.

Dr. Odo who is also the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chairmanship aspirant in Igbo Eze South Local council in the coming local government election in the state commended the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for paying the state yearly counterpart fund of Five Hundred Million Naira, (N500,000, 000) for communities in the state to benefit from World Bank Projects.

The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Vincent Ugwuanyi, lauded the state governor for doing an exceptional favour to his community and promised to use the money properly and according to the directives of the agency during the project.

Traditional ruler, promised that the community is behind Governor Ugwuanyi on his reelection bid stating that “there is No vacancy in Lion Building come 2019”.

“I am very happy for what the government is doing for us. My happiness knows no boundary. My community is PDP and we will support your second tenure come 2019”, he disclosed.
