DELTA; A community Chief and retired Major of the Nigeria Army, Major Fredrick N. Effam has commended the governor of Delta state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the on-going road construction project on Alihagwu/Oki Road, Agbor.

Chief Effam who is an indigene of Oki community gave the commendation while speaking with the press during the week in Agbor.

He described Governor Okowa, as a promise keeper and detribalized Deltan, stressing that the Governor’s approval for the reconstruction of the road(s), which according to him was abandoned since the creation of the state, is a good step in the right direction.

He noted that for a very long time now, members of Oki Community have been having doubt if they were part of Delta State owing to the lack of infrastructural development in the community.

According to him, “Oki Community suffered lots of setbacks as the government presence was not felt in spite of the numerous appeals made by the community. However, today we are now singing a new song of joy as the administration of the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has remembered us.”

He described good road network as the fulcrum of economic activity in any community, stressing that the on-going rehabilitation work on the said road, points to the commitment of Governor Okowa in making Oki people have a sense of belonging and to help reduce the stress they faced when the road was in a bad state.

He was optimistic that the road when completed will help to revive economic activities in the community among other developments. The community leader said, “The Governor had helped also to establish a Primary Health Care Centre in the community when he was a Senator irrespective of the fact that the project is yet to be commissioned but has been completed. The Governor has done well by reconstructing our major road. However, I want him to impress on the contractor to use quality materials to do the job to avoid the rains washing off the road.”

He lauded the achievements of the governor within two years of his administration, encouraging him not to be distracted by his critics rather, he should continue in his good will to the people through his SMART agenda mantra. He urged the masses to pray for the governor as well as gather maximum votes to retain him as governor come 2019 elections.

Chief Effam also applauded the duo of Hon. Festus Okoh, member, representing Ika South constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly and Hon. Sunny Ogwu, Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for their efforts towards encouraging development in Oki community.
