Members of the peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Amankanu/Ubahu ward, yesterday protested against the immediate past  Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Pastor Sam Iyiogwe, for allegedly substituting the elected councillorship flag bearer of the party, with his nephew.

The massive crowd which gathered in front of the government house Enugu carried placards which read thus: Pastor Sam Iyiogwe is a threat to democracy in Ubahu, using his friend, the PDP state chairman of our great Party; What we want in Amankanu/Ubahu is democracy not oligarchy or dictatorship; His excellency save us from Sam Iyiogwe’s dictatorship in Amankanu.

Other placards displayed by the protesters read: PDP chairman is sowing the seed of injustice, intimidation and greed in Amankanu; Augustine Nnamani, PDP State Chairman, allow internal democracy reign in Amankanu/Ubahu ward.

According to a protest letter addressed to the state governor Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and signed by ward executives and stakeholders of the party in the word, the party councillorship primaries was held on August 20, which produced one Mr Ifebuche Igwe as the candidate of the party.

The letter also stated that “contrary to the directives of his excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, information came that their is an attempt to illegally replace the duly elected candidate, Igwe Ifebuche by Pastor Sam Iyiogwe with his nephew, Ikechukwu Igwe who is from the same family with the immediate past councillors from Ubahu, Hon. Christian Okwor and Hon. Samuel Edeodo.”

“By accepting this strange and illegal replacement of Igwe Ifebuche, the parties choice with Ikechukwu Igwe means that all the positions coming to the community is in one family, the family of Sam Iyiogwe,” the letter read.

The leaders of the angry protesters, Hon. Christian Okwor and women leader of Amankanu Ubahu ward Mrs, Nnenna Edeh, who spoke to newsmen unanimously condemned the actions of the pastor turned politician describing him as a man who is only after his personal interest.

They also alleged that Pastor Iyiogwe had boasted that as long as he remained a friend to the state PDP chairman, he will always have a final say in party matters in the ward.

Reacting to the allegations, pastor Iyiogwe dismissed the protesters as touts and non party members who were going about looking for an avenue to ferment trouble and cause disaffection in the Ward.

He stated that a transparent election was held and his nephew, Ikechukwu Igwe, who was suitably qualified for the position contested and won.

He also said that it was not a crime for the state party chairman to be his friend noting that he had so many other friends who are politicians.
