Enugu state government has laid to rest the persistent boundary dispute between Abachaeku-Ndeabor and Ameke–Oduma autonomous communities in Aninri local government area, after bringing the two to a common ground of understanding.
Deputy -Governor, Cecilia Ezeilo led the state boundary committee and other stakeholders on an on-the-spot inspection of the disputed area thereby ending the disagreement.
The hitherto disputing communities had earlier in a meeting at the deputy governor`s office, agreed that they would accept government`s verdict on the matter to which effect they signed a written agreement that facilitated the resolution.
Addressing the people, Cecilia Ezeilo advised them to put peace and progress above all considerations, noting that the virtues are cardinal in the development agenda of the state government.
Ezeilo assured that government would ensure equal opportunity for all citizens to make progress in their respective endeavours and expressed satisfaction with the success of the peace initiative in the area.
Chairman, Enugu state traditional rulers council, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, who was also in the committee, charged traditional rulers of the communities to ensure sustainable peace by prevailing on their subjects to eschew unnecessary disagreement among themselves.
Also, Aninri Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chidi Ekwe, while expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the affected communities, promised that the council would put in place machinery for sustained peace and security in the area and thanked the state government for the intervention.
Also in the inspection team were Commissioners Godwin Udeuhele of information, Solomon Onah of Lands and the Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice Melitus Eze
Meanwhile, the state boundary committee is expected to effect the demarcation in line with government’s balanced judgement, as unanimously agreed.
